Back / Mos Def and Friends

In 2009 Hit Entertainment brought the RCDC Experiment ft Mos Def to South Africa for 2 shows, their 1st performance outside of the US was the grand finale, closing act on the Bassline Stage of the 10th Annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival, with a follow-up show to some 2000 people in Johannesburg 2 days later.

This collaboration brings together some of the best musicians in jazz and hip-hop and everything else in between.
Imagine if you will the musical directors’, musical director! This is who the experiment are, Robert Glasper, Chris “Daddy” Dave, Casey Benjamin and they are the chosen 1st choices as musicians for many of the world’s upper echelon of artists. These include Janet Jackson, Dolly Parton, Erykah Badu, Bilal, Kenny Garret, Roy Hargrove, Mint Condition, Terence Blanchard, Common, Kanye West, TLC, Tribe Called Quest, Jill Scott, Pat Metheny, Me’shell Ndegeocello….
Now take this already fantastic line-up and fuse it with the flo-nomenal musings of hip hop icon Mos Def. Seamlessly blending Jazz and hip hop, they are able to update and help you graduate your Hip-Hop ear to appreciate the foundation of all music, Jazz.

2 notable additions to the Johannesburg shows were RC Williams (Erykah Badu - Musical Director) & Kebbi Williams (See Ananda Project) who perfomed as a part of ‘Chris Dave & Friends’

Mos Def needs no introduction and is more than able to amaze his audience by consistently creating musical offerings that never disappoint. Def has gone from hip hop performer and activist, rising Hollywood star and back again, to create a show with the Experiment, who he is truly in awe of!

What further truly amazes are the ‘covers’ that they perform showing, respect and reverence to artists including J Dilla, De La Soul and various hip hop greats as well as great renditions of Radiohead, Herbie Hancock and even Bel Biv Devoe classics, without skipping a beat, one would swear that the artist themselves are in the house when they perform classics like Dilla’s E=MC2 or De La Soul’s ‘Stakes is High’
